What are the Minimum Requirements PC

Postby Adrianmpiak » Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:19 pm

where they have a lot of discussion on a lot of a computer's performance for photography. They base it on Lightroom and Photoshop; if it runs these programs, it will run most anything else well. You can use a lot of that info in helping you spec out a laptop.

The laptop will have other issues, such as drive space, screen size and ability to spec out a GPU. But this site will give you a lot to think about.

FWIW, I went through a similar thought process a year or so ago - and decided that since I did most of my editing at home, I built a desktop based on the specs that I found at Puget's site. I use my 17" laptop with an older i7 for travel and "light" editing.

I did actually buy and install an SSD, but without the expected results.. I also completely reinstalled my windows without much effect. Maybe I didnt configure it right? What is this CPU throughput? I cant seem to find exactly what you mean applicable to my situation. Can I change some settings to ameliorate my writing speed?

Not surprised. SSDs are great for quickly loading the OS/apps and reading/writing files, but most photo editing work is done by your processors (CPU, GPU) and, assuming you have enough RAM so that neither VM nor Scratch comes into play, an SSD is not a big benefit. I have a dual boot workstation, Win 8.1 on a Raptor and Win 10 on a Samsung 850 EVO. When I'm immersed in Photoshop, often for hours at a time, I can't tell any performance difference between them. Sometimes I have to look for visual cues to remind myself which OS I've booted into.

My laptop isn't my primary photo editor, but it does have to edit pictures nightly when I am on vacation. Especially if I am diving as I need the instant feedback before diving again the following day. I'm shooting a D850 and a D810, so the files are about as large as they are going to be this year. My laptop has no problems editing the files in Lightroom 6.14. My laptop is a Dell 5570 Inspiron. These laptops are so highly configurable that the model number is almost meaningless - you have to look at the specs.

Backlit keyboard. I love that! No more aiming the display down to light the keys at night. Just tap the mouse pad or touch a key and they all light up. Something I don't like - this laptop comes without ANY status lights to show that the hard drive is being accessed, WiFi is enabled, etc. I really miss not seeing a hard drive activity light. I downloaded some software to emulate it with an icon in the system tray, but that's pretty lame.

You’ll want to match the i3 9100F with a fairly powerful GPU. After all, performance in most games mainly depend on graphics processing power. In this case, there’s only one clear choice—and it’s AMD’s RX 570. Do note that video card manufacturers have this in 4 GB and 8GB variants. Visit this site right here canyourunit.ca
